BABIES NEEDS

PRESENT LIFE

This covers the Adoption itself (add Adoption Certificate and photos of the day and see our What 'Adoption' Means.doc.  Include your memories of the early days of waiting and the child’s introduction period and arrival in your. The final section should have a celebratory quality to it including pictures of being with the family through the seasons, often showing visually that more seasons have been spent here than anywhere else.   In addition a map of the years in seasons can be put here showing when the key changes in the child’s life occurred.  Like the beginning of the book this may be a place for pictures/certificates of the child accomplishing something or simply doing something they enjoy.  If the child wants to, finishing the book with ambitions or dreams of the future can be a positive way to end e.g. ‘When I grow up I want to live by the sea and drive a Ferrari.’   The book ends where it begins with acknowledgement of how the present came to be.

This allows the child to see their life in visual form through the seasons  (they have earlier created or chosen from the internet)  and now just needs stickers

to mark the key events:

  2. Bullet    Move to foster carer(s)

  3. Bullet    Move to adoptive home

  4. Bullet    Date of adoption


Begin in the season they were born.

For the final page you ask your child what future hopes and dreams they have.


You can collect photos with the child of images or jobs they would most like when they are older.  They could make a collage of self inspiration.

LIFE STORY BOOK CONTENTS

To create a sense of permanence and ‘rooting’ in your family find or create pictures of your child with you and your family at christmas, in snow (for winter). For spring you could be surrounded by spring flowers or holding an easter egg. For summer you could be on a summer holiday. For autumn you could use images of halloween, bonfire night, autumnal leaves.
