Sometimes there may not be much information about a child’s birth. Try to add as much detail as possible when there are evident gaps.


WEBSITES THAT ADD DETAILS TO A CHILD’S BIRTH STORY

www.dayofbirth.co.uk.   Facts for children on their date of birth eg how many hours/days/seconds old they are/birth stones/what animal in Chinese year they are etc.

Use www.infoplease.com/year.   This site has lots of information on films, music, politics, sporting events etc in the year of birth.

Use www.behindthename.com.  This has information about the meaning of names from all over the world.

  1. Bullet    Help the child weigh something they like. For example chocolate cake or sugar.


  1. Bullet    Use the internet to find images of bags of sugar, baked beans or chocolate or whatever the child would like to as an image to show their birth weight.  


  1. Bullet    Search the internet to get an image of the hospital your child was born in.


  1. Bullet    Create a Family Tree - your child can cut out leaves and you can make a tree trunk from cut out paper or simply draw it together.


  1. Bullet    Add basic facts about: race, culture, place of origin, age appearance, no negatives here.  See Useful Links (Stella age 7) and see some examples of a family tree template


  1. Bullet    Include birth certificate in envelope [if this is a safe thing to do] and decorate the envelope together.

Most hospitals have pictures of their buildings on the internet or you can use Google Maps to screen grab this.  With your child you can Google an image of the hospital or house that the child was born in.  If not ring the hospital and ask them to email you one.


If you do not know the hospital the GP medical records should have a record of it.


There may be famous people born in this hospital. Add any details you can.

Be as informative and specific about the birth day and the time/date that you can. You can get a lot of information from your child’s red book. You can find out details from the internet.


You can liken the weight to something the child likes to eat or can imagine.
